Santa Claus is coming…to your office! It’s that time of year when a daily mug of hot cocoa (after a cup of coffee of course!) is 100% the right thing to do.

If you’re anything like me, you probably spend a good chunk of December working at your desk. So why not make it a place that makes you smile every time you sit down?

A Christmas-y workspace can even make those long virtual meetings a little more cheerful.

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite ways to bring Christmas home office decor to life.

Have Fun with Lights

Lighting can completely change the energy of a room, especially during the shorter, darker days of winter. Try some Christmas lights in your office!

I love draping them around my window frame or wrapping them around a shelf so they cast a nice glow effect.

You can even loop a strand around the back of your desk. That way your day-to-day workflow isn’t interrupted.

Using Christmas candles for home office lighting is also an excuse to check out the new scents that are out this year. Do you really need an excuse to do this?

A cinnamon or pine-scented candle can fill your space with warmth in seconds.

If you prefer something low-maintenance, LED candles and lanterns are great alternatives. They give you the same glow with zero worry.

I still remember lighting a simple sugar cookie candle while tackling my December deadlines. The scent alone somehow made me more focused and calm.

It’s amazing how something so small can make a big difference in your mindset!

Go for Greenery

Nothing says “Christmas” like a bit of greenery. Or a lot of greenery! If you don’t have space for a full tree, a mini version is perfect. You can find tiny potted pines, tabletop faux trees, or even mini succulents dressed up with ribbons.

I’ve had a small faux pine tree for years, and it’s always fun to pick out cute new ornaments.

Wreaths are another simple but beautiful way to jazz up your work area. Hang one on your office door or above your desk. Whether it’s made of pine, berries, or paper, it’ll bring you some holiday cheer.

Garlands are a fun one too. Wrap them around shelves or door frames for extra holiday flair, and your floor stays clear.

Once your desk is merry and bright, it’s the perfect spot to work on some extra income. My free playbook shows how recurring income from home works, with simple math. Grab it right below.

Desk Decorations

Your desk is the heart of your workspace, so it deserves a little holiday love too. I love switching out my regular mug for a Christmas one, something with a snowflake or reindeer pattern.

Not a coffee drinker? No hard feelings from me! You can use the mug as a pen holder.

Ornaments and small figurines can also make your desktop more inviting. A tiny snow globe, a small nutcracker, or a miniature-sized ornament tree can bring a smile every time you glance at it.

Tight on space? Go for a Santa card and tape it to the top of your desk. He knows if you’ve been bad or good…

If you’re feeling crafty, try a little DIY. You can make paper snowflakes, wrap your pencil holder in festive paper, or create a mini garland using tape and string.

Personal Accents

The most meaningful holiday decor always tells a story. A photo display is one of my favorites.

You can hang small clips along a piece of string and attach family photos, travel pictures, or snapshots from past Christmases.

Maybe include a photo from one of your childhood Christmas mornings to remind you why you work to get where you’re going. I keep my goals for the new year in <a href="https://incomesuccessstrategies.com/letsgoaltraining" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Let’s Goal</a> so they’re right there next to the photos.

You can also include items that reflect your interests.

Maybe it’s a Christmas card from years prior, or a print that says something motivational. Whatever it is, hang it up!

Reel It in If You Need To

It’s easy to go overboard when decorating. Remember, you want to enjoy the space and stay productive, even when it’s surrounded by ornaments.

I like to keep my decorations minimal, maybe three or four key pieces that bring joy without distracting me from my work.

If you’re on video calls, think about your background too. A small wreath or string of lights can look professional and cheerful without looking like you’ve lost your marbles.

I’ve learned that subtlety works best when you’re on camera!

Try choosing a color theme for your office decor, maybe gold and white for something elegant, or red and green for a classic Christmas.

Keeping it cohesive helps everything look professional, yet still fun.

Christmas Home Office Decor FAQs

What's the easiest way to make my home office feel festive?
Honestly, start with lighting! A strand of Christmas lights around a window or shelf, or a cinnamon or pine-scented candle, changes the whole feel of your space in minutes. Add one or two small touches, like a mini tree or a Christmas mug, and you're there.
I don't have much space. Can I still decorate my desk for Christmas?
Absolutely! You don't need a full tree to feel the holiday spirit. A tiny potted pine, a small snow globe, or even a Santa card taped to your desk can bring a smile every time you sit down. Garlands on shelves or door frames are great too, because they keep your floor clear.
How do I keep my Christmas decor from distracting me while I work?
I like to stick with three or four key pieces that bring me joy without pulling my focus. Picking a color theme, like gold and white or red and green, also helps everything feel cohesive. You want your space to feel merry, but still like a place where you get things done.
What Christmas decor looks good on video calls?
Keep it simple and subtle! A small wreath or a string of lights in your background looks cheerful and still professional. I've learned that a little goes a long way on camera, so save the bigger, bolder pieces for spots that aren't in frame.

Wrapping Up These Christmas Home Office Decor Ideas

I hope that decorating your home office for Christmas is something that you look forward to. You get to add some warmth, personality, and a little joy to the world (or home office) where you spend so much time already.
